Why these numbers aren't perfectly round

A4's dimensions come from the ISO 216 paper standard, defined in millimeters, not inches — so converting to pixels always involves a rounding step. 210mm is about 8.2677 inches; at 300 DPI that's 8.2677 × 300 = 2480.3, which rounds down to 2,480px. 297mm is about 11.6929 inches, giving 11.6929 × 300 = 3507.9, which rounds up to 3,508px. That's why you'll sometimes see A4 quoted as 2480×3508 and other times as 2481×3507 — both are reasonable roundings of the same physical size.

Getting an image to exact A4 dimensions

1. Check your image's current pixel dimensions with the DPI Checker.
2. Find your target DPI in the table above and note the required width and height in pixels.
3. If your image already has at least that many pixels, use the Image Resizer for Print to resize down to the exact target.
4. If it has fewer pixels than the target, resizing up won't add real detail — see whether a lower DPI (and larger apparent grain) or a higher-resolution source is acceptable for your use case.
